South African DJ and producer DJ Webster has officially announced his return to music production after a 13-year break, marking a significant moment for local house music enthusiasts. Speaking about his comeback, the Mahikeng-born artist confirmed that 2026 will see him re-enter the production space, with new material expected in the first quarter of the year.
DJ Webster says his decision to return was influenced by the continued dominance of house music in South Africa, a genre that remains deeply rooted in local culture despite the meteoric rise of amapiano. While acknowledging that amapiano currently sets the pace in clubs and charts, he believes there is still room for a fusion-driven sound that blends deep house, EDM and Afro house. He describes his upcoming work as a natural evolution rather than an attempt to compete with current trends.
Although no exact release date has been confirmed, DJ Webster revealed that fans could receive anything from one album to as many as three projects, depending on how his creative process unfolds. He says the extended break allowed him to observe how South African music has evolved, and to appreciate the innovation coming from younger producers, while quietly refining his own sound behind the scenes.
DJ Webster is no stranger to the South African music industry. Known for his versatility, he has built a reputation for seamlessly moving between R’nB, hip hop, house, electro and dance music. Whether behind the decks or in the studio, his ability to energise a dance floor has long been part of his appeal. During his time away from production, he remained active as a DJ, focusing largely on corporate events, where demand and financial sustainability were stronger.
His professional journey includes being signed to Elevate Music in 2006, followed by a feature in 2007 on News Cafe Vibe Vol. 2, a compilation that placed him alongside respected local and international DJs such as Chris Lake, Eric Prydz, Roger Goode and DJ Disciple. Around the same period, he launched his own imprint, DJ Webster Records, while also working under sub-contracts with other labels.
In 2008, DJ Webster signed with Sheer Sound and USM Records, releasing a 13-track album titled Mafikeng Bliss. The project showcased a wide sonic range, blending house, tech, electro, disco, dance and funk. The following year, he released My Lifestyle, a deep and vocal house album featuring both local and international artists, with an added ragga bonus track.
Between 2009 and 2010, DJ Webster was voted among the Top 100 DJs in South Africa by SA DJ Magazine, cementing his status within the industry. His career has also included collaborations with international artists, including Italy-based DJ Mesta, as well as regular appearances on radio and television platforms such as Channel O, SABC 1’s Live, Motsweding FM, UJ FM, Mafikeng FM and VUT FM.
As anticipation builds for his return, DJ Webster’s discography remains a reminder of his contribution to South African dance music, with releases including Another Bliss, Still Bliss, My Lifestyle Volume 2, Mafikeng Bliss Volume 2 and My Lifestyle Volume 3. He has encouraged fans to follow him on Spotify to stay updated on upcoming releases, signalling that his long-awaited comeback is now firmly in motion.
While the industry has changed dramatically since his last release, DJ Webster’s return is being watched with interest, particularly by listeners eager to see how a seasoned producer interprets a modern South African soundscape shaped by both heritage and innovation.
