Regina Hall is reminding fans why she’s comedy royalty. In a new interview with Vanity Fair, the award-winning actress revealed that much of her iconic performance as Brenda Meeks in Scary Movie was improvised — proving that her natural wit and timing are as legendary as the role itself.
In a now-viral Instagram clip, Hall shared that several of her most quoted lines and reactions were created spontaneously on set.
“The director, Keenen Ivory Wayans, told me, ‘Don’t bother Brenda — just do what’s written,’” Hall recalled with a laugh. “Luckily, I didn’t listen.”
The result? Comedy gold. Lines like “You’re on candid camera now!” and “Oooh, that’s some scurry sht!”* became instant classics, helping define the over-the-top humor of the Scary Movie franchise.
Hall even improvised Brenda’s infamous Shakespeare misquote scene, which remains one of the funniest moments in horror-comedy history.
“I knew Brenda’s never seen Shakespeare, let alone read it,” Hall told Vanity Fair.
Improvisation That Made Movie History
Hall’s fearless approach to comedy helped turn Brenda into one of the most beloved — and quoted — characters in the Scary Movie universe. Her ability to think on her feet, riff with her co-stars, and embody the absurdity of every scene helped elevate what could have been a simple parody into something truly iconic.
This wasn’t just comedic talent — it was improvisational genius.
Brenda Is Back for ‘Scary Movie 6’
Now, over two decades later, fans have a reason to celebrate: Regina Hall is officially returning as Brenda in Scary Movie 6. The new installment will reunite Hall with Anna Faris and the Wayans brothers, marking the first time the original crew has been back together since Scary Movie 2 (2001).
Both Faris and Hall skipped Scary Movie 5 (2013), making this comeback especially exciting for longtime fans.
In a joint statement to Deadline, Faris and Hall said:
“We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn, and Marlon — three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again).”
With nostalgia running high and the original creative team on board, Scary Movie 6 promises to deliver the same chaotic, laugh-out-loud energy that made the franchise a cultural phenomenon.
If Regina Hall’s improvisational brilliance is anything to go by, Brenda Meeks is about to steal the show — again.
