Television personality and rapper Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has been arrested following an incident in Edenvale, Gauteng, that police say involved the alleged kidnapping of an e-hailing driver and the discharge of a firearm.
The arrest took place on Sunday morning, 14 June 2026, after authorities responded to a complaint involving a dispute reportedly linked to a personal relationship.
Police have confirmed that investigations remain ongoing and that the matter will now proceed through the courts.
What Police Say Happened
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, the incident unfolded at approximately 7:30am.
Police allege that Maarohanye confronted an e-hailing driver over claims that the driver was romantically involved with his girlfriend.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly forced the driver into a vehicle and prevented him from leaving.
Authorities further allege that a firearm was discharged during the incident.
“The suspect allegedly forced the e-hailing driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving. During the incident, the suspect reportedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver,” Sibeko said.
Police have not indicated whether any injuries were sustained during the encounter.
Driver Escapes and Reports Incident
According to police, the e-hailing driver managed to escape from the situation without physical harm.
The driver allegedly drove directly to a nearby police station, where he reported the incident to authorities.
Law enforcement officers subsequently launched an operation that led to the suspect’s arrest a short time later.
Police say the swift response enabled officers to apprehend the suspect on the same day the complaint was lodged.
Court Appearance Expected
Maarohanye is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 15 June 2026.
The court proceedings are likely to provide greater clarity regarding the charges that may be formally brought against him and the evidence gathered by investigators.
As with all criminal matters, any allegations remain subject to judicial scrutiny and due legal process.
The entertainer is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Jub Jub is one of South Africa’s most recognisable entertainment personalities, known both for his music career and his work as a television presenter.
Over the years, he has remained a prominent public figure, frequently attracting media attention due to both his professional achievements and legal controversies.
The latest allegations are likely to generate significant public interest given his high profile and extensive following across the country.
Investigation Continues
Police have indicated that investigations into the incident are continuing.
Authorities are expected to gather witness statements, review available evidence and determine whether additional charges may be warranted.
Further details are likely to emerge once the matter is formally heard in court.
For now, law enforcement officials have urged the public to allow the legal process to unfold while investigators complete their work.
