A brazen shooting at a petrol station in Surrey Estate, Cape Town, has left a woman dead and her husband injured. The woman, identified as Levern Davids, was reportedly the wife of an alleged Hard Livings gangster known as “Corky” or “Mr Davids.”
The couple was driving through an Engen garage in Surrey Estate on Friday evening when two armed men ambushed them. CCTV footage circulating on social media shows the suspects running toward the couple’s moving Audi A3 before firing multiple shots into the passenger side of the car.
Levern was struck in the stomach while her husband sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body. Despite their injuries, the couple managed to drive themselves to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that Manenberg police initially opened two cases of attempted murder. “On Friday night, October 24, at about 8.50pm, at a petrol station in Ruimte Road, Primrose Park, two adult victims were shot and wounded. The victims were transported to a medical facility for treatment. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined,” Twigg said.
However, after Levern’s passing on October 25, the charges were updated to one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.
The gunmen fled the scene immediately after the shooting, and no arrests have yet been made. Authorities are still working to establish the motive behind the attack.
Community members have expressed fear and frustration over rising gang-related violence in the area. Local policing structures have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
Police have urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS mobile app to report tips anonymously.
