Fans of horror and superhero films are abuzz after a cryptic social media post reignited rumours that Get Out director Jordan Peele could be heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The speculation began after Cosmic Marvel shared an insider tip attributed to well-known scooper Daniel Richtman, claiming that Marvel Studios wants Peele to direct a future MCU film. While such rumours have circulated before, this time they gained unexpected momentum when Peele’s production company, Monkeypaw Productions, responded on X with a simple 👀 emoji.
The brief reaction sent fans into overdrive, with many interpreting it as a subtle hint that talks may be happening behind the scenes. Requests quickly poured in for Peele to tackle darker Marvel properties such as Blade, X-Men, or Midnight Sons.
Monkeypaw adds fuel — then cools the fire
On Monday, Monkeypaw reposted the claim about Peele directing an MCU project, adding only the eyes emoji. By Tuesday, the company appeared to poke fun at the internet’s reaction.
“When the internet thinks you’re making a Blade reboot because you said 👀,” Monkeypaw joked, sharing a still of Peele from the Key & Peele “Sexy Vampires” sketch.
The studio also weighed in on Instagram, reposting a Complex headline reading “Jordan Peele’s company teased upcoming Marvel film”, and adding: “Your honor we are not confirming or denying this.”
Despite the playful engagement, representatives for Peele, Monkeypaw Productions, and Marvel Studios did not respond to Entertainment Weekly’s requests for comment.
Marvel’s uncertain future slate
Marvel Studios’ confirmed upcoming projects remain Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for December 2026 and December 2027 respectively, both directed by the Russo brothers.
Beyond those films, Marvel has yet to announce a full future slate. One long-delayed project still hanging in limbo is Blade, first announced in 2019 with Mahershala Ali attached. The film has cycled through multiple directors and writers and currently has no director confirmed — making it a frequent focus of fan speculation.
Peele’s complicated history with franchises
Jordan Peele was once vocal about his lack of interest in franchise filmmaking. In a 2017 Screen Junkies interview while promoting Get Out, he dismissed the idea of directing for Marvel, DC, or Star Wars, saying his focus was on original social horror stories.
“I feel like my responsibility to the world at this point is to keep making original films,” Peele said at the time.
However, his background in comedy and genre-blending storytelling has led some fans to believe he could bring a fresh, unconventional vision to the MCU — especially if given strong creative control.
Peele’s fourth directorial feature has also faced delays. Originally slated for December 2024, it was later rescheduled to October 2026 before being removed from Universal’s release calendar entirely. No new release date has been announced.
Will Peele join the MCU?
For now, the idea of Jordan Peele directing a Marvel film remains firmly in the realm of speculation. But with Monkeypaw’s playful online teasing and Marvel’s open-ended future slate, fans will be watching closely to see whether those 👀 emojis turn into something more concrete.
