Controversial and politically connected businessman Brown Mogotsi survived an alleged assassination attempt in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg, on Thursday night.
According to police sources, unknown gunmen reportedly opened fire on Mogotsi’s vehicle before fleeing the scene. Details surrounding the incident remain sketchy, but investigators believe the shooting may be linked to ongoing tensions within police and political circles.
Mogotsi has been a central figure in investigations into alleged corruption and interference within the South African Police Service (SAPS). He has been accused of meddling in police operations, engaging in criminal activities, and financially backing Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
Earlier in October, police raided Mogotsi’s business premises in the North West, seizing several items believed to be linked to criminal investigations.
Mogotsi’s name also surfaced during testimonies before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is probing allegations of collusion between politicians, senior police officers, intelligence operatives, and the judiciary.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether the Vosloorus shooting is connected to Mogotsi’s alleged involvement in these high-level corruption cases.
Police say no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
