‘The Young And The Restless’ Star Bryton James Files for Divorce After Seven Months of Marriage
Actor Bryton James, best known for his role as Devon Hamilton on The Young and The Restless, has officially filed for divorce from wife Jahaira James after only seven months of marriage. Court documents obtained by People reveal that the 39-year-old actor cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and has requested that neither party receive spousal support.
According to TMZ, Bryton has also asked the court to allow Jahaira to revert to her former name once the proceedings are complete. The actor filed the paperwork on October 13, marking the end of a short-lived union that began earlier this year.
This marks Bryton’s second divorce — he was previously married to Ashley Leisinger from 2011 to 2014. In a 2021 interview on Maurice Benard’s State of Mind podcast, Bryton admitted he hadn’t expected to remarry, explaining that his outlook on marriage had changed over time.
“I have different ideas about the institution of marriage and what it’s really about,” he said. “While I respect it, I just don’t see it for myself anymore.”
The actor also reflected on his views about parenthood, revealing that he’s come to terms with not wanting children — a decision shaped by self-awareness and past relationships.
Outside of his personal life, Bryton has been working on reviving his beloved sitcom Family Matters — but this time, in animated form. He’s been collaborating with a production company and reportedly has the support of Jaleel White, who famously portrayed Steve Urkel.
“I’ve got pretty far along with the idea,” Bryton told Entertainment Weekly. “We’ve got financing lined up, and Warner Bros. has it in their hands right now. The plan is still floating, and I’m still pushing to make it happen.”
While Bryton navigates the emotional terrain of divorce, fans are hopeful that his creative efforts might soon bring back the nostalgic magic of Family Matters for a new generation — in a whole new animated light.
