Police have confirmed that a suspect has been identified in the murder of Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock, who was shot and killed outside Zambesi House in Johannesburg earlier this week.
The well-known DJ was gunned down on Tuesday, sending shockwaves through the local music community and raising renewed concerns about safety in residential complexes within the city.
Police Raid Apartment Building
On Thursday night, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) conducted a raid at the eight-storey Zambesi House apartment building, where the shooting occurred. Four individuals were taken in for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have not disclosed whether those questioned are directly linked to the identified suspect, but have indicated that the operation forms part of a broader effort to piece together the events leading up to the fatal shooting.
Prior Protection Order Applications
It has emerged that Stock had previously applied for protection orders against several tenants at the apartment building. While police have not confirmed whether these disputes are directly linked to the murder, the information has become a key focus of the investigation.
The circumstances surrounding these applications may provide important context as detectives work to establish motive.
Arrest Expected Soon
National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola confirmed that law enforcement is closing in on the suspect and that an arrest is imminent.
“With regards to the DJ Warras case, a suspect has been identified, and he will be arrested,” Masemola said.
“I’m sure before Monday, we will have the suspect arrested. He’s a known suspect.”
Police have not yet released the suspect’s identity, citing the integrity of the investigation.
Community and Industry Reaction
The killing of DJ Warras has prompted an outpouring of grief from fans, fellow artists and industry figures, many of whom have called for swift justice. His death adds to a growing list of high-profile violent crimes that continue to fuel debate around crime prevention and policing in South Africa’s major cities.
As the investigation continues, authorities have urged the public to remain patient and allow the legal process to unfold.
