Hip-Hop’s war of words just took another turn, and Pusha T has weighed in with cutting precision. The Virginia rapper, known for his lyrical venom and long-standing feud with Drake, has now criticized the Canadian megastar for what he sees as a weak move: taking legal action over a diss track.
In a new GQ profile, Pusha responded to reports that Drake has sued Universal Music Group over Kendrick Lamar’s explosive hit “Not Like Us.” The track, widely regarded as a pivotal blow in Lamar’s headline-making rap battle with Drake, continues to dominate charts—and conversation.
“I don’t rate him no more,” Pusha said candidly. “The suing thing is bigger than some rap s—t… it just kind of cheapens the art of it. Like, what? For this?”
The rapper pointed out the irony of the lawsuit, noting that he, too, has faced industry suppression, referencing the alleged interference with his 2018 diss track “The Story of Adidon.” Despite that, Pusha said he never considered litigation—only retaliation through bars.
“I think after everything that had been done, I don’t think there was ever anything subliminal to be said ever again in life,” he said. “I did the dance for real… not to come back and tip-toe around anything.”
Drake Still Breaking Records
While Pusha took aim at Drake’s perceived softening, the Certified Lover Boy continues to rake in accolades. This week, he became the RIAA’s most Diamond-certified performer of all time.
Tracks like “Hold On, We’re Going Home” and “Best I Ever Had” have now crossed the 10 million units sold milestone, giving Drake a record-setting 10 Diamond singles—eclipsing both Post Malone and Garth Brooks in the process.
The Bigger Picture
As legal action threatens to overshadow lyrical artistry, voices like Pusha T’s underscore a deeper concern in hip-hop: What happens when rap beefs turn courtroom instead of lyrical battlegrounds? With fans and fellow artists watching closely, the genre may be on the verge of a cultural recalibration—one where battle lines are drawn in court filings rather than verses.
