Atlanta, Georgia — Actor and musician Tyrese Gibson has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty following a dog attack that left a neighbor’s pet dead.
According to Fulton County police, the incident occurred on September 18, when one of Gibson’s Cane Corsos, a large mastiff breed, allegedly attacked and killed a neighbor’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
Graphic Details From Police Report
Authorities reported that the smaller dog suffered severe injuries, including:
broken ribs on its right side,
blood on the left rib cage,
puncture wounds on its stomach, and
significant internal bleeding.
Surveillance footage cited in the police report showed Gibson’s dog scratching at a door minutes before the fatal attack.
History of Complaints
The report also revealed a troubling history with Gibson’s dogs. Neighbors had reported them running loose more than five times in recent months. Gibson received a warning on September 7 and was informed of the need for a special permit to own more than 10 dogs. Authorities have not confirmed the total number of dogs Gibson currently keeps.
Arrest and Response
Gibson turned himself in and was booked into Fulton County Jail before being released. His attorney, Gabe Banks, described the case as “shocking and traumatizing” and said Gibson has since rehomed his Cane Corsos.
“Mr. Gibson extends his deepest condolences to the family who lost their beloved dog to this tragic incident that occurred while Mr. Gibson was away from his home,” Banks said.
Public Safety Concerns
Officials warn the case underscores the public safety risks of large, powerful breeds if not properly contained. The investigation is ongoing, and Gibson could face further penalties if found negligent.
