Popular Limpopo musician Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, widely known as Shebeshxt, was arrested on Wednesday morning on two counts of attempted murder following a shooting incident in Polokwane last month.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that police apprehended the controversial “Ambulance” hitmaker at around 9:30am in an intelligence-driven operation in Bendor, an upmarket suburb outside Polokwane. The arrest was executed through a coordinated effort between the Provincial Investigation Unit and the Provincial Tracking Team.
According to Ledwaba, the charges stem from an incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, October 19, 2025, along Witklip Street in Ladanna. It is alleged that Shebeshxt had a confrontation with another motorist, during which he fired several shots at the vehicle. A 34-year-old male occupant was seriously injured and rushed to a nearby hospital.
The case was initially opened at Westernburg SAPS before being transferred to the Provincial Investigation Unit for further investigation. Detectives secured a warrant of arrest on Tuesday, November 11, leading to Wednesday’s operation. During the arrest, police seized several of Shebeshxt’s vehicles for forensic analysis.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the swift work of the investigative teams, reiterating that the police take the matter seriously.
“We are taking this matter very seriously, and a dedicated team was appointed to ensure that no stone is left unturned,” Hadebe said. “The South African Police Service reiterates that no one is above the law, regardless of their social standing.”
The rapper is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 13, 2025, on charges of attempted murder.
This is not the first time Shebeshxt has faced legal trouble. Earlier this year, a video circulated online showing him in an altercation involving a large knife. In the footage, he appears agitated as he unzips his Nike jacket and pulls out an object resembling a knife before lunging toward another individual. In 2022, he was charged with attempted murder following an alleged stabbing in Lebowakgomo.
The musician has not yet issued a public statement regarding the latest allegations.
Shebeshxt recently suffered personal tragedy when he buried his daughter, Onthatile Gladys Chuene, who died in a car accident in June 2024 while travelling with him to a performance at the ANC Siyanqoba Rally celebration concert in Lebowakgomo.
Known for the emerging Limpopo subgenre Lekompo, Shebeshxt blends traditional influences with modern house music production — a style that has earned him a loyal following despite his increasingly troubled public image.
