The tragic assassination of South African music producer and club owner DJ Sumbody, real name Oupa Sefoka, has been linked to a multimillion-rand drug consignment that allegedly vanished while in police custody in KwaZulu-Natal.
Sefoka and two of his bodyguards, Sbusiso Kwenzo and Sandile Myezwa, were brutally gunned down in a high-caliber AK-47 attack in Woodmead, Johannesburg, on November 20, 2022. They were reportedly ambushed while en route to News Café, where DJ Sumbody was scheduled to perform.
According to explosive new details reported by Sunday World, the deadly ambush may have been tied to missing narcotics that disappeared from police custody several years ago. The drugs were allegedly linked to a network of underworld figures who suspected DJ Sumbody had crucial knowledge about the missing cargo.
Sources suggest that the late DJ was unknowingly caught in a feud involving powerful crime syndicates and local business moguls, some of whom reportedly belong to a feared group known as The Big Five. These individuals, allegedly involved in drug trafficking, sought answers about the missing stash, reportedly worth millions.
DJ Sumbody’s name allegedly resurfaced during covert meetings among syndicate leaders, with claims that he “knew too much” about the missing narcotics. One associate described Sefoka as someone who found himself in dangerous company due to the business connections his clubs attracted.
Other celebrities previously caught up in the deadly web of this drug war include DJ Citi Lyts, rapper Mshoza, and Zimbabwean businessman and socialite, Hector “Ginimbi” Buthelezi, who was also known as DJ Vintos.
In another twist, investigators are looking into whether DJ Sumbody may have sought funding from controversial businessman Ayopepe’s Menlyn branch. It’s suspected he was about to cut ties and start fresh due to increasing threats.
Authorities have not ruled out further arrests, as the case remains active. Meanwhile, police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
