The 17th Annual South African Construction Awards (SACA) lit up the Emperor’s Palace in Ekurhuleni with a dazzling celebration akin to the Oscars of the construction industry. The prestigious event honoured the achievements of industry leaders, professionals, and innovators, showcasing the resilience and dedication of those driving South Africa’s infrastructure development.
A Night of Celebration and Networking
Held on a beautiful Wednesday evening, the event attracted nearly a thousand attendees, including industry stalwarts, government officials, and celebrities. Co-hosted by media personalities Zizo Beda and Dan Moyane, the ceremony was more than an awards show—it was a platform for networking, learning, and exploring investment opportunities.
Dr Collen Mashawana, founder of Afribiz Invest, delivered a heartfelt video message emphasising the importance of collaboration in overcoming industry challenges. “The South African Construction Awards provide a platform to honour the committed men and women who are essential to our country’s infrastructure development. Congratulations to all the nominees and award recipients; we are all winners,” Mashawana said.
VIP Attendees and Musical Performances
The event saw the attendance of prominent figures such as Minister of Human Settlements Mmaloko Kubayi, actress Lele Ledwaba, and entrepreneurs Lebo Gunguluza and Steven Ngobeni. The evening was further enlivened by vibrant musical performances that added to the celebratory atmosphere.
Dr Mashawana also extended his gratitude to Nkosindiphile Doctor Xhakaza, the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, for supporting the event. “Thank you, City of Ekurhuleni, for hosting the South African Construction Awards,” Mashawana said, acknowledging the city’s role in making the event a success.
Ekurhuleni’s Commitment to Urban Regeneration
In his opening address, Mayor Xhakaza reaffirmed Ekurhuleni’s dedication to urban regeneration and infrastructure improvement. “We want to commit ourselves to urban regeneration through channelling road infrastructure as part of a long-term programme to create sustainable settlements,” Xhakaza stated. He highlighted the challenge of managing over 100 informal settlements as thousands migrate into the city, emphasizing the need for sustainable development.
