After cheering for the U.S. at this year’s Paris Olympics, Snoop Dogg isn’t done with his sports ventures. The rap icon recently revealed his interest in investing in Scottish football giants Celtic FC, inspired by the success Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have enjoyed with Wrexham AFC. Wrexham, the Welsh club the two actors purchased in 2020, has since seen a surge in popularity and achieved back-to-back promotions, currently competing in the English Football League One. The transformative effect of Reynolds and McElhenney’s ownership, including the Disney+ docuseries Welcome to Wrexham, has undoubtedly piqued Snoop’s interest in bringing a similar impact to Celtic.
“I love what Ryan has done with Wrexham – it’s just a great story,” Snoop shared in an interview with the Daily Record. “Investing in a sports team has been something I’ve been interested in for a long time. If the chance came to invest in Celtic, I would be crazy not to take a look.”
Celtic, based in Glasgow, compete in the Scottish Premiership and currently top the league. The rapper, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., has been a long-time fan of Celtic, captivated by the electrifying atmosphere and passionate fanbase unique to Celtic Park. “I have watched so much soccer in Europe but have never seen fans like the Celtic fans. There is something so special about them,” he said, adding that Celtic Park holds a magical aura acknowledged by some of the world’s best players and managers.
With an estimated net worth of £120 million, Snoop’s potential involvement has sparked excitement among Celtic fans. And for Snoop, the club’s hound mascot, “Hoopy the Hound,” only makes the investment opportunity more enticing. “Snoop Dogg becomes Hoopy the Hound – that’s gotta be a match made in heaven,” he laughed.
Snoop’s admiration for Celtic is shared by other celebrity fans, including Susan Boyle and Sir Rod Stewart, whom he would love to join for a Celtic match. The rapper even gave Boyle a shoutout, expressing his hope for her musical comeback and the chance to sing together.
Snoop’s connection to Scotland goes beyond Celtic as well. Last year, he went viral after a Scottish bagpiper welcomed him with Still D.R.E. upon his arrival in the country, a moment he shared proudly on social media. If Snoop’s investment plans materialize, he would add a unique chapter to the club’s story while bringing his iconic persona and infectious enthusiasm to the already legendary atmosphere of Celtic Park.
