Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MP, has officially resigned from the party, alleging that leader Julius Malema suspended him based on “lies,” intelligence reports, and conspiracy theories. Ndlozi claims that his suspension stemmed from allegations that he was an agent of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP), a charge he vehemently denies.
Ndlozi was suspended just six weeks before the EFF’s third elective conference in December, as party leadership suspected he was working with the MKP to infiltrate the party. Despite the EFF initially denying the suspension and accusing the media of spreading “shebeen gossip,” Ndlozi confirmed in an exclusive SABC interview that he had indeed been suspended.
Suspension Based on Intelligence Reports
Ndlozi described his suspension as unconventional, claiming it did not adhere to the EFF’s code of conduct. According to him, the leadership cited two reasons for his removal:
- An intelligence report allegedly linking him to an MKP infiltration strategy.
- His failure to inform the leadership of then-deputy president Floyd Shivambu’s plans to leave the EFF and join MKP.
“The leadership said they had an intelligence report claiming I was working with the MKP and planning to join them at an opportune moment,” Ndlozi explained.
He also confirmed the allegations regarding Shivambu but argued that it was not his responsibility to inform Malema about Shivambu’s personal decisions.
Malema-Ndlozi Relationship Deteriorates
Ndlozi revealed that his suspension required him to cease all participation in Parliament and other EFF activities. Initially, he was told the report detailing his alleged involvement with MKP would be released after the elective conference, and that he would be given an opportunity to respond to the allegations. However, this never happened.
“At a later stage, the leadership argued that the report would only be ready after the conference and the matter would be revisited then. I decided to wait so I could clear my name and not operate under a dark cloud,” he said.
Dismissing the allegations as “dangerous,” Ndlozi reaffirmed that he had never planned to join the MKP, nor had he conspired with anyone within the party regarding his departure.
“I can categorically state that I never planned to join the MKP, and I still don’t. The information they had was largely based on lies,” he added.
His departure has fueled speculation regarding his next political move, especially after Shivambu’s exit from the EFF. The fallout between Malema and Ndlozi has become increasingly public, with Malema recently stating that he has “no personal relationship” with Ndlozi and that he is “not his father,” implying no responsibility for his future political career.
As the dust settles on this political saga, all eyes are on Ndlozi’s next steps and whether his departure will trigger further instability within the EFF.
