The Polokwane High Court in Limpopo has dismissed an urgent application by artist Lehlohonolo Chauke, popularly known as Shebe Maburna, to appeal the decision denying him bail.
Maburna’s bail was initially refused by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court last month, following his arrest on multiple serious charges. These include three counts of attempted murder, one of which relates to an incident in which he allegedly shot and injured a fan in Ladanna, Polokwane.
In a brief ruling on the matter, Judge AJ Burnett rejected the artist’s application to challenge the earlier bail decision.
“I hereby make the following order: the appeal is dismissed,” Judge Burnett ruled.
As a result, Maburna will remain in custody and has been remanded until 18 February, when he is expected to appear again in court.
The case has drawn public attention due to Maburna’s profile in the music industry and the seriousness of the allegations against him. The court has not yet ruled on the merits of the charges, which will be addressed during trial proceedings.
