Bellarmine Mugabe — youngest son of former Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe — and his co-accused are expected to appear in court on Monday following an alleged attempted murder incident in Johannesburg.
Alleged Shooting at Hyde Park Property
The case stems from a shooting at the Mugabe family home in Hyde Park on Thursday, where a 23-year-old gardener was allegedly shot during a dispute at the property.
The victim remains in critical condition in hospital. Police have confirmed that a firearm believed to have been used in the incident has not yet been recovered.
Attempted Murder Charges
Authorities say the pair will face attempted murder charges as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Mixed Reactions From Zimbabweans
Reaction among Zimbabweans has been divided.
Knowledge Mbewe said that if Bellarmine Mugabe was at fault, he should face jail time, but suggested the possibility of self-defence if he had been threatened.
Meanwhile, social commentator Precious Shumba criticised what he described as a sense of entitlement among some members of the Mugabe family, saying the rule of law in South Africa should apply equally to everyone.
Family Lawyer Responds
Family lawyer Ashel Mugiya confirmed the family is aware of the arrest but declined to comment further, noting that legal proceedings fall under South African jurisdiction.
Investigation Ongoing
Police investigations are continuing as authorities work to establish the full details of the incident. The upcoming court appearance is expected to provide more clarity on the charges and legal process ahead.
The case has drawn regional attention, highlighting ongoing conversations about accountability, cross-border legal processes, and the public scrutiny that often follows high-profile families.
