R&B singer Trey Songz has been arrested in New York City following an alleged altercation at a Times Square nightclub, marking another legal setback for the 41-year-old artist.
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred in the early hours of 4 December at Dramma Night Club in Manhattan. Trey Songz, whose real name is Tremaine Neverson, was reportedly informed by staff that the venue was closing at approximately 4:25am. Authorities allege that he became irate and punched a club employee who asked him to leave.
Multiple Charges Filed
Trey Songz appeared in court on Sunday, 14 December, where he was arraigned on charges of assault and second-degree criminal mischief.
The mischief charge relates to a separate incident that allegedly took place later the same day at Mira, a Manhattan restaurant and hookah lounge. Prosecutors claim the singer caused approximately $1,500 in property damage, including broken hookahs and damaged DJ equipment.
He was released after acknowledging the charges and is expected to return to court on 18 February.
Defence Responds
Trey Songz has not publicly commented on the arrest. However, his attorney, Mitchell Schuster, said his client was not the aggressor.
According to Schuster, Trey Songz was confronted by a group of individuals who “instigated a confrontation and attempted to surround him.” He claimed the singer’s security team attempted to intervene, but the situation escalated.
“Despite being the target of the initial provocation, Trey was arrested,” Schuster said. “Public figures are often treated as targets for instigation in pursuit of headlines or financial gain. Trey is cooperating fully in both matters, and we are confident the full context and facts will come to light.”
Pattern of Legal Troubles
The arrest adds to a growing list of legal issues surrounding the “Ready” singer over the past year.
In July, videographer Isaa Mansoor accused Trey Songz of assault during an incident at the Ivy venue in Huntington, New York. Mansoor alleged that the singer punched him in the head, damaged two cameras, and shoved him against a wall after refusing to pose next to the venue’s logo.
Earlier this year, footage surfaced from a March performance in North Carolina showing the singer involved in a heated confrontation with a fan who reportedly rushed the stage.
Past Lawsuits and Settlements
Trey Songz has also faced serious allegations in previous years. In 2023, he settled a multi-million-dollar lawsuit linked to an alleged sexual assault at a Miami nightclub in 2018. In 2024, he resolved a separate $25 million lawsuit related to an alleged assault at a Los Angeles party in 2016.
Despite the repeated allegations, Trey Songz has largely remained silent publicly and has not addressed the most recent incidents.
He is scheduled to appear in court again on 18 February as the New York cases proceed.
