SA Rugby has launched a Springbok-themed clothing line, marking a first in the sport’s history. In response to the growing popularity and demand for Springbok-branded merchandise, SA Rugby now offers a range of off-field gear designed to seamlessly integrate the Springbok spirit into the daily lives of South Africans. The range, available online and in select retail stores, aims to meet the desire for more than just game-day apparel.
The collection, which debuted today, includes polo shirts, formal shirts, t-shirts, and quarter-zip tops, making it versatile enough for both work and leisure. Manufactured by Old School, the clothing is now on sale through its website and stores, with plans to expand availability to Sneakers and Total Sports. This move represents a strategic reset for SA Rugby, responding to a noticeable surge in imitation products and unofficial Springbok merchandise across social media platforms.
SA Rugby CEO Rian Oberholzer expressed excitement over the initiative, which aligns with a vision to bring the Springbok brand into everyday South African life. “We see the popularity of Bok Fridays and match-day jerseys, but the market is ready for more,” Oberholzer explained. “There’s been a clear demand for everyday Springbok clothing that fans can wear beyond the stadium or sports events. We wanted to create a clothing line that would let people wear the Springbok brand to the office or around town, in a way that reflects their passion for rugby.”
The line has been timed to launch with the start of the Springbok Outgoing Tour, coinciding with the team’s game against Scotland in Edinburgh. Over time, SA Rugby envisions expanding the collection to be available at even more locations. By the 2027 Rugby World Cup, the organisation aims to open Springbok-themed stores across South Africa, providing fans with dedicated spaces to purchase official team-branded apparel.
With plans to extend the line to various leisure and workwear options, SA Rugby aims to infuse daily life with the “spirit of rugby,” as Oberholzer put it. “We want our supporters to feel connected to the energy of the game, every day. This range is designed to make the Springbok spirit a part of everyone’s everyday experience.”
For now, fans can find the Springbok clothing line available at Old School’s online channels and at select retail outlets, bringing the green and gold from the stadium to the streets.
