As the prestigious Africa Coastal Marine Tourism event approaches, students from Nelson Mandela University’s Hospitality and Tourism Faculty are preparing to step out of the classroom and into the heart of the tourism industry.
This year, more than 20 second- and third-year students have been selected to volunteer at the event, which brings together key players in Africa’s marine and coastal tourism economy—including business leaders, government representatives, and global investors.
These future tourism professionals will gain practical experience in areas such as:
- Logistics and event operations
- Reception and delegation management
- Client-facing roles and communication
- Guest coordination and protocol
“Volunteering at this level of industry engagement is a game-changer,” said one of the event coordinators Lusanda Fibi. “It’s no longer just theory for them. They get to live the experience.”
