LOS ANGELES, CA — In an emotional four-minute TikTok video, Shalon Jackson, the 35-year-old son of actress and comedian Mo’Nique, publicly apologized on Wednesday (May 28) for past remarks made about his mother and her husband, Sidney Hicks.
The apology comes a year after Jackson posted a series of critical videos addressing Mo’Nique’s parenting and their strained relationship, particularly following her widely discussed appearance on Club Shay Shay. Now, Jackson says he regrets making his family matters public.
“Making those videos a year ago was a betrayal against our family, and I have to take full accountability for it,” Jackson shared. “Why I made the videos and how I was feeling at the time is irrelevant. I made them and I shouldn’t have, period.”
He continued, “My mother and Sidney were very justified to address my mental health condition at the time. I just simply didn’t like it. I was wrong and I shouldn’t have said any of what I said. I should’ve just kept my mouth shut and called my mother.”
A Healing Moment
Jackson revealed that a recent “intervention-style” talk with his brothers helped set the stage for reconciliation.
“I spiritually got jumped,” he joked. “But at the end of the ass-whooping, my family did pick me up and give me a hug.”
He also shared a heartfelt moment about watching Mo’Nique bond with his children:
“Now, watching her take pride in making my son’s baby food from scratch, to baking chickpea chocolate chip cookies with my daughter… makes me so happy to have been so wrong before.”
Looking Back, Moving Forward
In 2023, Jackson accused Mo’Nique of pushing a “false narrative” and claimed they were estranged because “she doesn’t care to be my mother any more than I care to be her son.” Mo’Nique and Hicks quickly rebutted with a video response, presenting receipts of their support and denying many of Jackson’s claims.
At the end of his new video, Jackson emphasized his motivation for going public once again:
“I owe it to my family to make this apology public due to the fact that I made our family business public. Though the road to family redemption is hard, I’m looking forward to it.”
Mo’Nique has not yet publicly responded to the video.
