Lizzo is sharing how her years-long friendship with Myke Wright turned into a romantic love story.
The Grammy-winning artist appeared on a new episode of the podcast Therapuss with Jake Shane, which aired on May 14. Around the 1:25:00 mark, Lizzo opened up about her private relationship with Wright, calling it a “friends-to-lovers trope”—a dynamic she clearly cherishes.
“We both worked on this TV show for MTV. I was the music girl, he was the comedy guy,” Lizzo recalled.
“I was like, ‘He’s my best friend.’ I didn’t have any guy friends… I was like, ‘Wow, I can really talk to him.’”
Lizzo went public with Wright in June 2022, but the pair had reportedly known each other for years before dating. Their relationship blossomed naturally, she said, built on a foundation of mutual trust and deep conversation.
“We shared this crazy bond for years,” she explained. “I do love that we were friends first, so that means we can talk about anything.”
“There’s Nobody Else I Want to Be With”
During the podcast episode, Lizzo was asked whether she would ever marry Wright. Her response? Heartwarmingly clear.
“There’s nobody else I want to be with for the rest of my life,” she said.
It’s a rare public glimpse into the love life of the usually private star, who has consistently expressed her desire to protect the sacredness of their bond.
A Relationship That Stayed Private—Until Andy Cohen?
Earlier this year, Lizzo humorously recounted how talk show host Andy Cohen may have inadvertently revealed her relationship status during a public interaction.
“I was in such a weird position because we’re so private,” she said, laughing about how Cohen had “outed” her.
Despite being one of the most talked-about celebrities in music, Lizzo has kept much of her romantic life out of the spotlight. But this new glimpse shows a relationship built on honesty, history, and friendship.
Who Is Myke Wright?
Myke Wright is a comedian, actor, and musician who co-starred with Lizzo on the MTV series Wonderland. The two developed a close friendship during the show’s production and have remained connected ever since.
While Wright has largely stayed out of the media frenzy that surrounds Lizzo, he has supported her career privately and publicly since they started dating.
