Kaizer Chiefs have made a strong statement in the opening weeks of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, collecting ten points from their first four matches. The Soweto giants recorded wins over Stellenbosch FC (2-0), Polokwane City (1-0), and Richards Bay FC (1-0), before holding champions Mamelodi Sundowns to a 0-0 draw.
Signs of a title push
Former Amakhosi defender Isaac Mabotsa believes the early results could signal a promising season for the Glamour Boys.
“The team is improving; for me, it’s still early days, but it’s a good start,” Mabotsa told Kick Off. “Even though Kaizer Chiefs aren’t yet playing the style they aspire to, the results are piling up, and that’s what builds confidence. Things are moving in the right direction.”
Mabotsa also pointed to the depth of the current squad as a reason for optimism. “I’m pleased with the squad. So far, so good. You can see how happy the supporters are,” he said. “With young talent blending with experienced heads, Kaizer Chiefs look like a side ready to mount a serious title challenge.”
While Mabotsa cautioned that the real test will come after ten matches, he agreed that Amakhosi are once again in the conversation for the league title. “As with any major club, Chiefs target the league title every season. We have done our building, and now it’s time to deliver.”
R16 million incentive from Polokwane
Off the pitch, Kaizer Chiefs have been offered a lucrative deal that could see them spend more time in Limpopo. The Polokwane Municipality has tabled a R16 million proposal for Amakhosi to play six matches at the Peter Mokaba Stadium over the next two seasons.
The arrangement would see Chiefs play three “home” games in Polokwane during the current campaign, and another three in 2026. Each fixture is expected to draw thousands of fans to the 45,000-seater stadium, which was originally built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The move would not only boost the club’s coffers but also strengthen its fan base outside Gauteng, where Chiefs traditionally enjoy massive support. For Polokwane, the deal represents both an economic and sporting windfall, with the city poised to benefit from increased tourism and match-day revenue.
The road ahead
Kaizer Chiefs have often flattered to deceive in recent seasons, but the combination of improved results, squad depth, and financial backing could make 2025/26 a defining campaign. With supporters already showing renewed belief, the challenge now is to maintain momentum and prove Mabotsa right—that this is indeed the start of something special.
