A 64-year-old security guard has been arrested following a deadly shooting incident on a Durban street that left a 43-year-old man dead.
According to the South African Police Service, the incident occurred on Thursday, 19 February, on David Webster Road in Durban.
Altercation Turns Deadly
Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said the confrontation began when the suspect approached the victim, who was allegedly urinating alongside the road.
“Reports indicate that the suspect approached the victim who was urinating alongside the road and an altercation ensued, leading to the shooting,” Netshiunda said.
Authorities allege the victim was shot seven times during the confrontation.
Arrest and Court Appearance
The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and is currently being held at Durban Central Police Station. He is expected to appear in court soon as the murder case proceeds.
The case adds to ongoing concerns about violent crime incidents in urban areas, where minor disputes can escalate rapidly into fatal confrontations.
Moments like this underline a grim truth about human conflict: small sparks — a word, a gesture, a misunderstanding — can cascade into irreversible outcomes, a reminder that social friction and access to weapons make a volatile mix in any city on Earth.
