Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal – The 4th Annual Township & Village Tourism Intra-Trade Conference officially opened its doors at the elegant Donga La Boutique Hotel, a distinguished venue nestled in the heart of Alfred Duma Local Municipality.
Mr. Themba Shabalala, from Donga La Boutique Hotel, warmly welcomed delegates, senior officials, and industry leaders to his establishment, expressing his pride in hosting such a nationally significant event.
“It’s an honour for us to be part of this historic gathering,” said Shabalala. “As a locally owned and operated establishment, we are deeply invested in promoting township and village tourism that uplifts communities and showcases the authentic experiences our regions have to offer.”
Known for its impeccable service and serene ambiance, Donga La Boutique Hotel stands as a testament to the growth of hospitality entrepreneurship in smaller towns like Ladysmith. The venue’s modern conference facilities, beautiful gardens, and boutique charm made it the perfect setting for this year’s event — attended by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Hon. Makhotso Magdeline Sotyu, MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Rev. Musa Zondi, and Mayor of Alfred Duma Municipality, Cllr. Zama Sibisi, among other dignitaries.
The event featured exhibitions from Farquhar Lodge, Coffee Lam’, North West Women in Tourism, Zithei B&B Spa and Lodge, Ndaba Guest Lodge, and the Ladysmith Tourism Association, highlighting the diversity of South Africa’s township and village tourism offerings.
Ladysmith itself is a jewel within the Alfred Duma Local Municipality, renowned for its rich cultural heritage, Zulu history, and vibrant township tourism. The area offers attractions such as the Anglo-Boer War Museum, Spioenkop Nature Reserve, and the Battlefields Route, providing visitors with a blend of historical reflection, natural beauty, and community warmth.
As SATOVITO celebrates its 5th anniversary this year, the partnership with Donga La Boutique Hotel underscores a broader vision — to spotlight local businesses that embody the future of sustainable, inclusive tourism.
“This conference is not just about dialogue,” said Shabalala. “It’s about turning ideas into tangible opportunities that bring real change to our people.”
Delegates are encouraged to network, explore Ladysmith’s attractions, and support local enterprises contributing to the township and village tourism ecosystem.
