Chris Jasper, Isley Brothers Icon and R&B Innovator, Dies at 73
Chris Jasper, the influential musician, songwriter, and producer who played a key role in The Isley Brothers’ groundbreaking sound, has passed away at the age of 73.
Jasper’s family announced his passing on February 23, 2025, following a battle with cancer. He was diagnosed in December 2024.
“He will be deeply missed, and his legacy will live on as an inspiration for generations,” his family shared in a heartfelt Facebook post.
A Pivotal Force Behind The Isley Brothers’ Sound
Joining The Isley Brothers in 1973, Jasper was instrumental in transforming the group from a vocal trio into a full-fledged R&B and funk powerhouse. His innovative approach to keyboards and synthesizers became a defining element of the band’s sound, laying the foundation for classic hits such as:

- “Fight the Power”
- “Between the Sheets”
His impact extended beyond The Isley Brothers. In 1984, Jasper, along with Ernie and Marvin Isley, formed the trio Isley-Jasper-Isley, finding success with the 1985 chart-topping single “Caravan of Love.” Two years later, he launched a solo career, releasing multiple albums and founding Gold City Records. His music continued to influence R&B, with his compositions widely sampled by hip-hop and contemporary artists.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which inducted The Isley Brothers in 1992, honored Jasper in a tribute on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
