Grammy-winning rapper and philanthropist Megan Thee Stallion was honoured for her impactful charitable efforts at the 2024 Golden Heart Awards in New York City. Megan, whose real name is Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, was presented with the inaugural GenLOVE Award for “Outstanding Philanthropy” in recognition of her work with the Pete Thomas Foundation, which serves underprivileged communities in her hometown of Houston, Texas.
The Pete Thomas Foundation, named in honour of Megan’s late mother and father, focuses on mental health advocacy, women’s empowerment, and support for senior citizens. In her acceptance speech, Megan expressed pride in the foundation’s achievements so far, stating, “From advocating for mental health and creating safe spaces for young women to supporting our senior citizens, I’m proud of the work our organisation has accomplished so far.” She added a heartfelt call to action, noting, “I believe in the power of uplifting one another and establishing environments where everyone can thrive. We all know this world can be tough, but it’s also filled with resilience, love, and compassion.”
The event, hosted by God’s Love We Deliver—an organisation providing meals to individuals affected by HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other serious illnesses—was a night of celebration for changemakers committed to community welfare. Attendees included influential figures like David Ludwigson, President and CEO of God’s Love We Deliver, fashion designer Michael Kors, and Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez. The evening also honoured actor Sarah Jessica Parker, who received the Michael Kors Award for “Outstanding Philanthropy,” with British singer Sam Smith performing to round off the festivities.
Megan’s Pete Thomas Foundation continues its work on healthcare disparities, aiming to provide a platform for women and young people to flourish and overcome adversity. The annual Golden Heart Awards has established itself as a space where influential leaders are acknowledged for their commitment to creating positive change within their communities.
