Kid Cudi has confirmed that his years-long feud with Canadian rapper Drake is finally over — but so too is their friendship. The revelation came during his interview on CBS Mornings, while promoting his newly released memoir, Cudi.
The Grammy-winning rapper and actor reflected on a turbulent chapter in his career when Drake dissed him on the 2016 track Two Birds, One Stone. At the time, Cudi was in rehab, and the line struck a nerve.
“I was like, oh okay, you wanna kick me when I’m down. Great,” Cudi recalled. “But he wanted to play the game with me. He wanted me to put him in my song or whatever, and I’m not that type of artist. I’m not going to the studio angry, rapping about some other man and putting him in my art. That’s not what we’re gonna do here. I’m gonna come to your doorstep and I’mma let you know that I’mma see you. I’mma see you and that’s a promise.”
Kanye West Steps In
Years later, it was Ye — formerly known as Kanye West — who facilitated a meeting between the two artists. That sit-down ended the tension, with Cudi even contributing a verse to Drake’s 2021 project, Certified Lover Boy.
“I went on to do a record for him for his album, but granted, I haven’t heard from him ever since,” Cudi said.
No Bad Blood, But No Friendship Either
Despite ending their feud, Cudi made it clear their relationship has permanently shifted.
“It just let me know that time is over. We’ll never be homies like we were before,” he explained. “I don’t have any beef with him anymore and I’m not mad at him or anything. It’s just time has gone by. We are in different places. It’s all good. I know he loves me. I know that. And I know he respects me as an artist. That’s good enough for me.”
The rapper’s reflections underscore the reality that while grudges may fade, not all friendships can return to what they once were.
