Nkosinathi Sekeleni, the brother of convicted fugitive accomplice Dr Nandipha Magudumana, appeared before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday alongside two co-accused on a charge of attempted murder.
The trio was arrested following an alleged violent assault on a man they accused of attempting to rob them. They were released on a warning pending further police investigation.
Incident Details
According to police, the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 7 February 2026, when the suspects allegedly confronted the victim. The confrontation reportedly escalated into a severe assault, leaving the victim with life-threatening injuries.
Due to the seriousness of the injuries, the initial charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was later upgraded to attempted murder as the victim continues to fight for his life in hospital.
Police Confirmation
SAPS spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed that all three suspects were taken into custody over the weekend and appeared in court shortly thereafter.
“The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 7 February 2026, when the suspects allegedly confronted the victim, accusing him of trying to rob them. Initial charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm were later upgraded to attempted murder,” Sibeko said.
NPA on Bail and Postponement
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole said the matter was postponed to allow for further investigation.
“All three accused appeared in court. At the time of placement, the charge preferred was assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm,” Mohlatlole said.
He added that the prosecution informed the court that the complainant was still hospitalised and that, at the time, there was no basis to oppose bail.
“The court then released all three accused on warning, and the matter was postponed to 20 March 2026 for further investigation,” Mohlatlole stated.
The case remains under investigation as police await updates on the victim’s medical condition.
