Donald Trump Selects Former ‘Never-Trumper’ JD Vance as Running Mate

Donald Trump has chosen Ohio Senator JD Vance, a former critic, as his vice-presidential running mate. Vance, once a staunch opponent, now aligns with Trump, marking a significant political shift.

In a surprising political twist, former President Donald Trump has announced his selection of Ohio Senator JD Vance as his vice-presidential running mate for the upcoming election. Vance, a 39-year-old venture capitalist and author of the memoir “Hillbilly Elegy,” was a prominent critic of Trump during the 2016 election cycle. Despite their rocky past, Trump endorsed Vance in the 2022 Ohio Senate race, helping him secure a victory in a contentious Republican primary.

Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social platform, stating, “After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio.” This decision highlights the unpredictable nature of political alliances and the dynamic shifts within the Republican Party.

Vance’s journey from a “never Trumper” to Trump’s running mate is notable. During a 2016 interview with Charlie Rose, Vance openly criticized Trump, calling him a “terrible candidate” and likening him to “America’s Hitler.” These strong statements seem a distant memory as Vance now stands beside the former president in a united front.

The announcement comes just days after a harrowing incident at a Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where an assassination attempt resulted in one death and two injuries. Despite the turmoil, Trump remains resolute, moving forward with his campaign and solidifying his ticket with Vance.
