ActionSA’s Ekurhuleni Mayoral Candidate, Xolani Khumalo, has officially been sworn in as a councillor in the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, signalling the party’s preparations to govern the metro.
ActionSA Ekurhuleni spokesperson Tumelo Tshabalala said Khumalo’s induction was a significant step in the party’s broader strategy to position itself for leadership.
“As a councillor, Khumalo will gain first-hand experience of the municipality’s systems, operations, and challenges,” Tshabalala explained.
The ceremony was attended by top ActionSA figures, including party president Herman Mashaba, national chairperson Michael Beaumont, and Gauteng chairperson Funzi Ngobeni.
From TV to Politics
Khumalo, best known as the former host of the hard-hitting crime show Sizok’thola, has transitioned from television to politics. The party hailed him as a respected community activist whose leadership will strengthen its grassroots efforts in Ekurhuleni.
Mashaba praised Khumalo during his mayoral announcement last month, calling him a “fearless and ethical leader” capable of restoring law and order while addressing service delivery challenges.
“A fearless, ethical leader, Khumalo is ready to reclaim Ekurhuleni from criminals, provide basic services, and ensure growth and jobs,” Mashaba said.
Beyond his political career, Khumalo is also the founder of the Xolani Khumalo Foundation, which partners with law enforcement, government, and community leaders to combat drug abuse and crime in South African communities.
His move into politics, observers say, reflects ActionSA’s growing appeal among younger voters and civic activists seeking to merge social impact with political reform.
