Tributes Flood Social Media as Rapper Fatman Scoop Dies at 53 After Collapsing On Stage

The music world is mourning the loss of Grammy Award-winning rapper and hypeman, Fatman Scoop, who tragically passed away at the age of 53. The artist, whose real name was Isaac Freeman III, collapsed on stage during a performance at Hamden Town Center Park in Connecticut on August 30. Despite the swift response from medics who delivered CPR and rushed him to the hospital, Freeman’s life could not be saved. His untimely death was confirmed the following day by his tour manager, Birch Michael, also known as Pure Cold.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Michael expressed his deep grief, stating, “It is with the heaviest of hearts I announce the passing of Isaac Freeman III, known professionally as Fatman Scoop. You taught me how to be the man I am today. I love you Scoop, thank you so much for everything you gave to me.”

He continued, “I am honestly lost for words… You took me all over the world and had me performing alongside you on some of the biggest and greatest stages on this planet. The things you taught me have truly made me the man I am today.”

Freeman’s talent agency, MN2S, also paid tribute, expressing their profound sadness in a statement shared by The Independent. “We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear friend and client, Fatman Scoop, at the age of 53. Scoop was a beloved figure in the music world, whose work was loved by countless fans across the globe. His iconic voice, infectious energy, and great personality made an indelible mark on the industry, and his legacy will live on through his timeless music.”

Born in New York, Freeman made a significant impact on the 90s hip-hop scene, with his most notable success being the 1999 hit “Be Faithful.” The track became a worldwide sensation, topping charts in the UK and Ireland in 2003. Beyond his solo work, Freeman contributed to Grammy Award-winning songs such as Missy Elliott’s “Lose Control” and Mariah Carey’s “It’s Like That.” He also collaborated with major artists like Skrillex, Timbaland, and Nick Cannon.

In a tribute posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), Missy Elliott shared her sorrow, writing, “Prayers for Fatman Scoop’s family for STRENGTH during this difficult time. Fatman Scoop’s VOICE & energy have contributed to MANY songs that made the people feel HAPPY & want to dance for over 2 decades. Your IMPACT is HUGE & will NEVER be forgotten.”

In addition to his music career, Fatman Scoop was known for his appearance on the UK reality TV show “Celebrity Big Brother 16: UK vs USA” in 2015, where he was the third housemate to be evicted.
