Thulasizwe Simelane Returns to Airwaves as SAfm’s New Breakfast Show Host

Esteemed journalist and broadcaster Thulasizwe Simelane is making a much-anticipated return to the South African airwaves. Come September 2nd, Simelane will be at the helm of SAfm’s flagship breakfast show, ‘The Morning Brief,’ where he promises to deliver a distinctive mix of hard-hitting news, in-depth interviews, and vibrant discussions to kickstart listeners’ mornings.

Simelane, known for his insightful reporting and engaging on-air presence, had taken a brief hiatus from the media last year to serve as the spokesperson for Takatso Aviation during its attempted acquisition of South African Airways—a deal that ultimately fell through. However, his return to broadcasting marks a new chapter in his illustrious career, as he brings his fresh perspective to the national discourse.

In a statement, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) expressed its excitement about Simelane’s return, highlighting the significance of ‘The Morning Brief’ in keeping South Africans informed on critical issues at home, across the continent, and around the world. With Simelane at the forefront, the show is expected to deliver compelling content that will influence public opinion and inform decision-making on a variety of crucial topics.

Anthony Soglo, Business Manager of Radio Fortune Combo, which oversees SAfm, shared the station’s enthusiasm in welcoming Simelane aboard. He emphasized the importance of Simelane’s fact-driven and engaging style, especially as South Africa celebrates 30 years of democracy. “We are excited to welcome Mr. Simelane to SAfm during this pivotal time. His ability to deliver factual, compelling, and engaging content will be vital as we continue to grow the SAfm family,” said Soglo.

Simelane himself is equally thrilled about his return to the airwaves. He shared that his recent corporate experience, combined with his ongoing professional development, has equipped him with a deeper understanding of complex issues in politics, international relations, business, and law. “I feel my recent experience in the corporate sector, coupled with the professional growth journey I’m on, have sharpened me to better understand complex issues… but also to ask better questions of power brokers and wielders,” Simelane said.

Listeners can tune in to ‘The Morning Brief’ on SAfm weekdays between 06:00 AM and 09:00 AM for a show that promises to blend hard-hitting journalism with dynamic conversations, ensuring that they start their day informed and engaged.
