SABC Sport and SAFA Renew Broadcast Partnership Until 2028

SABC Sport and the South African Football Association (SAFA) have renewed their broadcasting partnership, which will last until 2028. The deal ensures comprehensive coverage of South African football, including all national teams and various leagues, accessible to the public at no charge. In a significant move for South African football, SABC Sport and the South African Football Association (SAFA) have announced the renewal of their broadcast partnership. The agreement, unveiled at the SABC Sport studios in Auckland Park, Johannesburg, extends through 2028. This continued collaboration guarantees that the South African public will have free access to a wide array of football content, including coverage of both the men’s and women’s national teams, the Hollywoodbets Super League, and regional leagues.

Since the reinception of Bafana Bafana in 1992, SABC Sport has played a pivotal role in showcasing South African football. The partnership has been instrumental in broadcasting key tournaments such as the Africa Cup of Nations in 1996 and 2023, as well as the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. This extension underscores SABC Sport’s commitment to bringing football to the masses and ensuring that fans remain connected to their favorite teams and leagues.

SABC Group CEO Nomsa Chabeli expressed enthusiasm about the renewed deal, highlighting that it not only continues the tradition of broadcasting senior national teams but also expands to include Banyana Banyana and the Hollywoodbets Super League. Chabeli emphasized the importance of showcasing grassroots leagues, noting that this will provide young, emerging football stars with a platform to shine and engage with their communities.

SAFA President Danny Jordaan also praised the renewed partnership, stressing its significance for football development across South Africa. Jordaan pointed out that the continued relationship with SABC Sport aligns with SAFA’s Vision 2030, which aims to enhance football development at every level, reaching all corners of the country.

The extension of this broadcast agreement reaffirms SABC Sport’s role as a crucial partner in South African football, promising extensive coverage and continued support for the growth and success of the sport in the nation.
