The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has announced the resignation of its Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Yolande van Biljon. Her tenure, which began in 2018, will officially conclude on 30 November 2024.
Van Biljon’s Impact on the SABC
Van Biljon’s departure marks the end of a transformative era for the SABC. She joined the public broadcaster during a challenging period and played a pivotal role in stabilizing its financial health.
“Ms. Van Biljon has made invaluable contributions to the organization,” the SABC stated. “As a member of the leadership team, she greatly strengthened our financial position, resulting in an unqualified audit opinion for the first time in 14 years.”
Her leadership saw the SABC navigating turbulent waters, reinforcing its financial stability, and laying a solid foundation for future growth.
Tendai Matore Steps In as Acting CFO
To ensure a seamless transition, the SABC board has appointed Tendai Matore, currently head of finance and management reporting, as acting CFO.
Matore brings extensive expertise to the role. He is a Chartered Accountant (SA) with an MBA in Finance from Durham Business School in the UK. Since joining the SABC in 2017, Matore has been instrumental in financial oversight and management reporting.
Recruitment of a Permanent CFO
The SABC emphasized its commitment to swiftly appointing a permanent CFO to align with its strategic objectives. “The recruitment process is a priority to ensure continuity and alignment with our five-year strategy,” the broadcaster stated.
Gratitude and Well Wishes
The SABC board, management, and staff have expressed their gratitude for Van Biljon’s dedication and leadership during her tenure. “While saddened by her departure, the corporation fully respects her decision and wishes her all the best in her future endeavours,” the statement concluded.
Van Biljon’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the SABC, but the broadcaster is well-positioned for continued financial stability under its interim leadership and upcoming strategic appointments.
