Netstar Unveils Startag: A Game-Changer in Asset Tracking and Recovery

Netstar, a leader in vehicle tracking and recovery in South Africa and a subsidiary of Altron, has recently introduced a groundbreaking asset tracking device known as the Startag. This device, which promises to revolutionise the tracking of both motorised and non-motorised assets, is a compact, highly durable solution designed to provide superior protection for valuable items.

Key Features of the Startag

The Startag, slightly smaller than a pocket-sized gadget, boasts an impressive battery life of up to five years, making it a reliable long-term investment. What sets it apart is its versatility; the device can be attached to a wide range of assets, from motorcycles and bicycles to solar panels, cargo, bags, bins, generators, and industrial equipment. This flexibility is enhanced by the fact that it can be self-installed, eliminating the need for a Netstar technician.

One of the standout features of the Startag is its resistance to jamming, ensuring that it remains functional even in challenging environments. Users can easily track their assets using the MyNetstar app, which offers real-time map visibility. Furthermore, the device is designed to withstand harsh conditions, being both dust and water-resistant.

Advanced Functionality

The Startag is equipped with over-the-air (OTA) functionality, allowing for remote updates, ensuring that the device remains up-to-date with the latest features and improvements. Additionally, it includes capabilities for failure reporting and installation testing, providing users with peace of mind that their assets are always protected.

Relying on Netstar’s robust radio-frequency network and global system for mobile-based systems, the Startag ensures timely updates, crucial for effective asset recovery in case of theft. This makes the Startag a significant step forward for Netstar as it expands beyond its traditional vehicle tracking market into protecting a broader range of high-value items.

A Competitive Edge in the Market

Netstar’s group managing director, Grant Fraser, highlighted the company’s innovative strides over the past year, including the creation of a vehicle-to-vehicle mesh network that is set to transform the stolen vehicle and recovery industry. With the launch of the Startag, Netstar is not only offering a new product but also empowering customers by broadening its market reach and enhancing the protection of diverse assets.

In the South African market, the Startag will face competition from products like Apple’s AirTag and Samsung’s Galaxy Smart Tag2. However, Netstar’s offering stands out due to its robust design, which is geared towards outdoor conditions and vehicle tracking, and its impressive battery life, which lasts up to three times longer than its competitors.

Moreover, while the AirTag and Galaxy Smart Tag2 come with a one-time cost of R739 and R499, respectively, the Startag operates on a subscription model at R89 per month for 36 months. This subscription includes access to Netstar’s recovery support, which boasts a 90% recovery rate, and a 24-hour call centre, offering a level of service that competitors do not match.

Conclusion

With the introduction of the Startag, Netstar is not just entering a new market; it is redefining the standards for asset tracking and recovery in South Africa. Whether for personal or commercial use, the Startag offers a rugged, reliable, and long-lasting solution that stands out in a competitive landscape.
