After months of social media speculation, R&B singer Miguel has broken his silence about his marriage, divorce, and new relationship. The Grammy-winning artist sat down with The Breakfast Club to address rumors surrounding the timeline of his divorce from Nazanin Mandi and the birth of his son with Margaret Zhang, former editor-in-chief of Vogue China.
Last month, Miguel celebrated his son Angelito’s first birthday on social media — sparking widespread debate over the overlap between his past and present relationships. But during the interview, the “Adorn” hitmaker made it clear that the timelines being circulated online are simply wrong.
“The f*cked-up part is that people start doing the wrong math,” Miguel said. “The one thing I did not do is start a relationship while I was married and then have a baby.”
He clarified that he met Zhang well after his split from Mandi, emphasizing that there was no affair or overlap between the two chapters of his life.
“I got divorced, and I’m going to say this straight up — everybody out there talking sh*t like I was still in a marriage and then I had a baby, that’s not true. I met my son’s mom after we were divorced,” Miguel said. “I met her at an event that we weren’t even supposed to go to. That was well after we were done.”
When co-host Loren Lorosa asked about people who were “upset” that he had a child with Zhang instead of his ex-wife, Miguel appeared unfazed.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve had people feel the need to weigh in on my personal life,” he said, calling the chatter “a good reminder” of what comes with fame.
The “Coffee” singer explained that he revealed his son’s existence with “so much intention,” noting that the moment was deeply personal and not a PR move.
He praised Zhang as “an incredible partner” and celebrated his new role as a father.
“Life doesn’t always happen the way we imagine it,” Miguel reflected, “but I’m proud of where I am and who I get to share it with.”
Miguel’s honesty and calm demeanor have earned praise from fans who applauded his transparency — and for finally shutting down the online rumors once and for all.
