Kirk Franklin, the renowned gospel artist, has reflected on a tumultuous 2024, offering apologies for moments that sparked controversy among his fans. The Grammy-winning musician addressed concerns about his stage attire and playful actions that left some of his nonsecular followers unsettled.
Reflecting on a Memorable Yet Challenging Year
In a YouTube video titled “Thank You for a Beautiful 24,” Franklin shared his thoughts on an extraordinary year that included both career highlights and incidents he now regrets. Among the contentious moments were his performance in Jamaica, where he sported a figure-hugging tank top, and an onstage interaction with Clark Sisters member Jacky Clark Chisholm during the Reunion Tour.
Addressing the Jamaica Performance
Franklin’s appearance in Jamaica drew criticism from some fans who deemed his outfit inappropriate. Speaking candidly in his vlog, Franklin explained:
“I am aware now that my choice of attire, which as a team we thought was suitable for the outdoor weather, came across as disrespectful. I’ve spent most of my career dancing and moving on stage, and I never thought I’d do something to offend any community, but I did. For that, I sincerely apologise.”
The artist emphasised his commitment to self-improvement, noting:
“It doesn’t matter what my goal or intent is; if I’m louder than the message of Jesus, then I’ve failed.”
Reflecting on the Clark Sisters Incident
Franklin also addressed the lighthearted but controversial moment during the Reunion Tour, where he jokingly “twerked” near Jacky Clark Chisholm. While his actions were meant to entertain friends onstage, he admitted the gesture was inappropriate for the audience.
“I shouldn’t have been playing out there in front of y’all. What seemed fine in the moment felt like too much when I saw the clip,” Franklin said, acknowledging his mistake.
