Feisal Salum, the highly-rated Tanzanian midfielder, has been offered an improved deal by his current club, Azam FC. The move aims to keep the 26-year-old at the club amid interest from Kaizer Chiefs and other top teams.
Azam FC’s Efforts to Retain Salum
Salum, who previously worked with Kaizer Chiefs’ coach Nasreddine Nabi and assistant Cedric Kaze during their stint at Young Africans SC, is regarded as one of Africa’s top midfielders. Azam FC, unwilling to lose such a key player, has reportedly tabled a lucrative new offer.
According to The Citizen, the proposed deal includes a salary of approximately R216,000, a figure that Kaizer Chiefs could likely match or even surpass. A source close to the negotiations stated, “Feisal is an important player for Azam, and they are prepared to make him one of the highest-paid players in the Tanzanian Premier League.”
The report added that Salum’s salary offer reflects his value, but his future remains uncertain. Kaizer Chiefs and Tanzanian giants Simba SC are keen to secure his services during the January transfer window.
Why Kaizer Chiefs Want Salum
Salum’s versatility and creativity in the midfield make him a perfect fit for Kaizer Chiefs’ current needs. Under the leadership of coach Nasreddine Nabi, Chiefs are looking to strengthen their squad and improve results.
Midfielders Currently Available for Kaizer Chiefs
Coach Nabi has a mix of youth and experience in his midfield options, including:
- Njabulo Blom (24)
- Samkelo Zwane (22)
- Yusuf Maart (29)
- Sibongiseni Mthethwa (30)
However, the absence of Edson Castillo, who is sidelined with an injury until 2025, has highlighted the need for additional reinforcements.
The Competition
Kaizer Chiefs will need to act quickly as Simba SC, another Tanzanian powerhouse, has also expressed interest in Salum. Chiefs’ ability to offer a competitive package and a chance to play in the South African Premier Division could sway the midfielder’s decision.
With January approaching, all eyes will be on whether Salum chooses to extend his stay at Azam or make a high-profile move to South Africa.
