John Legend Shares Daughter’s Excitement for Kamala Harris, Applauds Biden’s Decision

John Legend, the renowned singer behind hits like “All of Me,” recently shared a heartwarming revelation about his daughter, Luna. The 8-year-old is thrilled to see Vice President Kamala Harris, who is both Black and Asian, taking center stage in American politics. For Luna, seeing someone who shares her ethnic background and gender in such a powerful position is deeply inspiring.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter ahead of his performance at the Democratic National Convention, Legend expressed how meaningful this representation is for his daughter. “Luna is so excited to see someone who’s Black and Asian like she is, and a woman like she is—so she’s looking at [Kamala] like, ‘This is me’ up there,’” Legend shared. This connection to Harris, who mirrors her identity in many ways, has filled Luna with pride and inspiration.

Legend, a vocal supporter of progressive causes, didn’t hold back his excitement when President Joe Biden stepped aside to endorse Harris for the 2024 presidential race. “I’m so ready to work to help unite the pro-democracy coalition to reject Trump’s authoritarian, oppressive Project 2025 and elect Kamala Harris as our President,” he tweeted following Biden’s announcement. Legend believes Harris is fully prepared for the challenge and has committed to supporting her campaign.

He also praised Biden’s decision to step down, calling it a “graceful and patriotic” move. Legend noted that many people were growing tired of the idea of two 80-year-olds vying for the presidency again, expressing relief that Biden recognized the need for fresh leadership. “I think people were kind of apathetic about voting for two 80-year-olds, and they were ready for some new energy and some new excitement,” Legend told THR. He commended Biden for prioritizing the country’s needs over personal ambition, setting the stage for a new generation of leadership.

In addition to his political commentary, Legend recently announced a new album titled My Favorite Dream, a collection of children’s lullabies. The album’s lead single, “L-O-V-E,” features contributions from his wife, Chrissy Teigen, and their children, Luna and Miles, blending family and music in a project close to his heart.
