Jada Pinkett Smith Goes Private on Instagram After Empowering Post About Women’s Independence

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith, known for her roles in “Girls Trip” and her candid reflections on life, has set her Instagram account to private following a powerful post on women’s independence. On Monday, September 2, Jada shared a thought-provoking message, calling attention to societal expectations placed on women, especially when it comes to relationships and their sense of worth.

Her post read: “A man can CHOOSE to belong to someone. And if he does… he is considered noble. A woman is told she MUST belong to someone or… she is not worthy.” The message, coupled with a photo, was a direct critique of how women’s autonomy is often diminished in contrast to men’s.

In her caption, Jada expanded on her views, reflecting on how even in religious traditions, women’s power is frequently linked to male counterparts. “Even in some of our great religious traditions, the goddess is rendered powerless without her male counterpart. And in others, the spiritual influence of the feminine, of Mother … is not even recognized,” she wrote.

Jada continued to inspire with her words, declaring, “We mere mortal women are worthy simply because we exist! And those of us who have cultivated our Queendom within our inner kingdom and have a deep relationship with the Great Supreme … If we so CHOOSE to bond with someone from this space … we will erect monumental love and give birth to treasures. We need not bond in fear. You … are … greatness. Walk with that this here Monday.”

Her post resonated deeply with her followers, as she emphasized that women do not need to rely on anyone else to be whole, but if they choose to, they can build something beautiful and meaningful from a place of strength. However, soon after sharing this empowering message, Jada chose to switch her account to private, leaving fans curious and reflecting on the depth of her statements.

This move comes almost a year after Jada opened up about her relationship with husband Will Smith during an interview with PEOPLE. In the interview, which coincided with the release of her memoir Worthy, she revealed the complexities of their marriage, sharing that they had been separated since 2016 but were still working on their relationship. “We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just have a deep love for each other and are working out what that means for us,” she shared, adding, “I’m going to be by his side.”

Jada and Will married in 1997 and have two children together: Jaden, 26, and Willow, 23. Will also has a 31-year-old son, Trey, from his previous marriage to Sheree Zampino. Despite the ups and downs of their public relationship, the couple remains committed to redefining what their partnership means to them.
