Ice-T Fires Back at ‘Woke’ Criticism of ‘Law & Order: SVU’

Ice-T isn’t one to shy away from a clash, especially when it comes to his role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Recently, the rapper-turned-actor took to social media to respond to a fan’s critique accusing the show of becoming too “woke.”

On August 27, Ice-T posted a behind-the-scenes photo from the set of the show’s 26th season. A fan took the opportunity to comment, questioning whether SVU had reverted to its original format or had simply become more “woke.” Ice-T, known for his straightforwardness, hit back with, “What the F is woke? Lol. Like I give a f**k.”

At 66, Ice-T has been a staple of SVU since 2000, portraying the character of Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola. He’s the second longest-running character on the show, following Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson. This longevity underscores his significant role in the show’s success and its evolution over the years.

Earlier this year, during the show’s 25th-anniversary celebration in New York City, Ice-T shared insights into his personal life, particularly his 22-year marriage to Coco. He emphasized the importance of keeping the relationship vibrant and engaged. “That flame has to stay lit,” he said. “When that flame goes out and you’re not really attracted to each other anymore, you have to address that very quickly because it’s something that’s necessary.”

Ice-T further elaborated on the dynamics of a healthy relationship, stating, “We have to be teammates, not opponents, not assets, not liabilities. I value what she brings to me, and I think it’s vice versa. We appreciate each other.”

In the end, Ice-T’s reaction to the “woke” criticism reflects his no-nonsense approach to his work and personal life, reinforcing his commitment to his craft and his values.
