Halle Berry Opens Up About Decades of On-Set Injuries, From Broken Bones to Mastering Martial Arts

Halle Berry, one of Hollywood’s most resilient stars, recently opened up about the extensive list of injuries she has endured over her illustrious film career. During a conversation with her co-star Mark Wahlberg, while promoting their upcoming Netflix film The Union, Berry detailed some of the most intense physical damages she’s suffered, revealing just how demanding her roles have been.

In the chat, Berry shockingly revealed that she has broken a staggering 10 bones over the years. This includes a fractured arm and five ribs—three of which were broken during the 2019 action-packed John Wick: Chapter 3 and two while she was filming her 2021 directorial debut Bruised. But the list doesn’t stop there. The Academy Award-winning actress also shared that she has broken her tailbone, two toes, and even one of her middle fingers in the line of duty.

Berry’s journey through the physically demanding world of action films has also seen her mastering an impressive range of combat sports. Her training resume includes Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, kickboxing, taekwondo, and capoeira, a discipline she specifically learned for her role in the 2004 film Catwoman.

Despite the toll these injuries have taken on her body, Berry remains undeterred, continuing to take on challenging roles that push her to the limits. Her dedication to her craft is evident not only in the bruises and breaks she has endured but also in the skill and intensity she brings to every performance.

Fans won’t have to wait long to see Berry in action again. She and Wahlberg star in the upcoming film The Union, where Wahlberg plays Mike, a construction worker who is unexpectedly drawn into the high-stakes world of super spies and secret agents. Berry’s character, Roxanne, is his high school sweetheart who recruits him for a critical US intelligence mission. The film is set to start streaming on Netflix on Friday, Aug. 16.
