DJ Fresh Set to Make Radio Comeback in April 2025

Thato Sikwane, widely known as DJ Fresh, is gearing up for a triumphant return to radio in April 2025. After nearly four years off-air, the seasoned broadcaster reveals his plans to join either a drive-time or breakfast show. This announcement comes after a series of controversies and his recent venture into podcasting with “WAW! What a Week.”

In an exciting development for radio enthusiasts, Thato Sikwane, better known as DJ Fresh, has announced his much-anticipated return to the airwaves. The former Metro FM star confirmed to Zimoja that he would be back on radio in April 2025, though he remains tight-lipped about the specific station. “I will be back in April; I can’t say where yet. I’m a radio-head through and through,” DJ Fresh shared.

The charismatic media personality, known for his dynamic presence and engaging style, hinted that he would either helm a drive-time or a breakfast show. This comeback marks a significant milestone in Sikwane’s career after nearly four years away from the microphone.

DJ Fresh’s hiatus from radio was not without drama. In February 2023, he launched his podcast titled “WAW! What a Week,” following his dismissal from 947 in 2021. His departure from 947, alongside fellow DJ Euphonik (Themba Nkosi), came amid serious allegations of sexual assault. The accusations, which surfaced on social media, led to both DJs being pulled off the air as they focused on addressing the matter.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of Primedia Broadcasting, Geraint Crwys-Williams, stated at the time: “947 and Primedia Broadcasting have engaged with DJ Fresh and Euphonik regarding the alleged sexual assault charges levelled against them. We take these matters extremely seriously and apply a rigorous, systematic internal process to assess them.”

The controversy surrounding the allegations was intense, with the woman involved opening a case at a Pretoria police station. Both DJs have since worked to clear their names, even filing defamation cases against those involved in the social media fallout.

Adding to his tumultuous journey, DJ Fresh was dismissed from Metro FM in 2019 for using the offensive term “Msun**y” on air. Reflecting on the incident, he told Zimoja, “I don’t think I was fired for the word. I was fired because I refused to apologise for using the word. I was suspended for a month.” He further elaborated that the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA) found no transgression in his use of the term, as it did not officially exist. “Had they said apologise immediately, I would’ve done that, but you punish me first, and I must come back and say I’m sorry,” he explained.

Despite these setbacks, DJ Fresh’s passion for radio remains undiminished. His upcoming return is eagerly anticipated by fans who have missed his vibrant energy and insightful commentary. As April 2025 approaches, the airwaves are set to buzz with the unmistakable voice of DJ Fresh, marking a new chapter in his illustrious career.
