Johannesburg – The fraud case against South African Football Association (SAFA) president Danny Jordaan, SAFA’s chief financial officer Gronie Hluyo, and PR executive Trevor Neethling has been postponed to 12 September 2025, extending a years-long legal battle.
The trio appeared at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 15 August, for proceedings that ended with yet another delay.
Charges and Allegations
The case centres on claims that Jordaan used Grit Communications, run by Neethling, to manage and enhance his public image after he was accused of rape in 2017 by singer and former ANC MP Jennifer Ferguson. Jordaan has denied the rape allegations, but the fallout led to increased scrutiny of SAFA’s finances.
Investigators allege that SAFA funds were improperly channelled to pay for the PR campaign, constituting fraud. Hluyo is accused of facilitating the financial transactions that enabled the alleged misconduct.
Ongoing Legal Stalemate
The repeated postponements have drawn criticism from transparency advocates, with calls for the case to be expedited given its high-profile nature and implications for governance in South African sport.
Jordaan remains in his position as SAFA president, despite mounting legal pressure and public calls for accountability.
