Biden Campaign ‘Quietly Assessing Kamala Harris’ as Presidential Candidate Amid Growing Concerns

Allies of President Joe Biden express doubts about his re-election chances, suggesting Vice President Kamala Harris as a potential candidate. Amid growing concerns over Biden’s mental fitness, the campaign assesses Harris’s viability against Donald Trump.

As the political landscape heats up ahead of the 2024 US presidential election, President Joe Biden’s allies have begun to express serious concerns about his chances of winning re-election. These concerns have prompted a quiet assessment of Vice President Kamala Harris’s viability as a potential candidate to challenge Donald Trump.

During a recent NATO summit, President Biden mistakenly referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as “President Putin,” an error that highlighted ongoing questions about his mental fitness. This slip came on the heels of warnings from some of Biden’s closest allies that his chances of securing a second term are diminishing rapidly.

A series of conversations with NBC News revealed that several allies, including three key figures in Biden’s re-election campaign, believe he should withdraw from the race. They cited his declining performance and the need for a candidate who could more effectively challenge Trump. One campaign official bluntly stated, “He needs to drop out.”

These concerns have spurred the Biden campaign to quietly evaluate Vice President Kamala Harris’s prospects in a direct match-up against Trump. Despite Biden’s initial skepticism about Harris’s ability to win over moderate voters in crucial swing states, the current political climate has necessitated this reassessment.

Recent weeks have seen Biden grappling with questions about his health and fitness for office. Reports of a specialist doctor visiting the president multiple times over the past year led to rumors of Parkinson’s disease, which the White House firmly denied. Biden’s doctor released a letter confirming that the president shows no symptoms of Parkinson’s or any other neurological condition.

Despite these reassurances, the sentiment among Biden’s allies remains that his path to victory is increasingly narrow. Some believe that finding an alternative candidate is crucial to defeating Trump in the upcoming election. A longtime Democratic strategist criticized the current approach, saying, “We’re all waiting around for Joe Biden to f*** up again, which is not a great position to be in.”

Although some within the Biden camp hold out hope for a turnaround, they acknowledge the uphill battle they face. The White House, however, remains steadfast in its support for Biden, with campaign spokesperson TJ Ducklo dismissing reports of internal doubts as “patently false.”

As the 2024 election draws nearer, the Biden campaign’s quiet assessment of Kamala Harris’s candidacy could signal a significant shift in strategy. Whether Biden decides to stay in the race or step aside for another Democrat, the primary goal remains clear: defeating Donald Trump in November.
