EFF Open to Collaborating with MK Party Despite Floyd Shivambu’s Departure

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) recently expressed interest in forming a partnership with the MK Party, despite the departure of their co-founder and former deputy president, Floyd Shivambu. The announcement came after online tensions, with EFF members directing criticism toward Shivambu. However, the EFF remains firm in its stance, maintaining that it can still work alongside the Progressive Caucus and the MK Party.

EFF to Work with MKP Despite Internal Changes

According to News24, the EFF’s Treasurer-General Omphile Maotwe reassured the public that Shivambu’s exit has not weakened the party’s resolve. Maotwe believes the EFF can gain strength by collaborating with the MK Party, even though Shivambu has now joined the MKP. She further added that the EFF remains resilient, even after recent election results showed a decline in its representation.

Online Tensions Following Shivambu’s Departure

Shivambu’s resignation led to significant backlash from EFF members, including Sihle Lonzi, president of the EFF Student Command (EFFSC). Lonzi shared a heated WhatsApp exchange with Shivambu, showing the growing tensions between the two. Despite this, Maotwe insists that the EFF will continue to push forward, working with strategic partners to strengthen its influence.

Possible Implications for EFF and MK Party Collaboration

The EFF’s willingness to join forces with the MK Party could reshape South Africa’s political landscape, especially with the backing of the Progressive Caucus. This collaboration might offer the EFF new opportunities for growth, despite recent internal challenges.
