Eskom has announced a planned nine-hour power outage for parts of Soweto, Gauteng, on Tuesday, 21 January. The disruption is necessary to carry out essential maintenance on the distribution network.
The affected areas include Jabulani, Mofolo North (Sgodiphola), and Zondi, with the outage scheduled from 9:00 to 18:00. Eskom stated that the maintenance work is critical to ensuring the reliability of power supply in the future.
“The interruption of electricity is necessary to perform essential maintenance on our distribution power lines,” the utility said in a statement. Eskom has also advised customers to treat all electrical appliances as live during the power outage to prevent accidents.
The utility apologized for any inconvenience caused, adding, “Eskom apologises for any inconvenience that may be caused by this maintenance. Should circumstances beyond the control of Eskom arise, the planned electricity maintenance may not proceed as communicated.”
Residents in the affected areas are urged to make necessary preparations, such as charging essential devices and ensuring food storage safety during the power cut.
