Marjorie Taylor Greene Faces Backlash Over Controversial Comments Following Trump Rally Shooting

Marjorie Taylor Greene has sparked outrage with inflammatory statements following an attempted assassination on Donald Trump, blaming Democrats and calling them “the party of pedophiles.”

Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican congresswoman from Georgia, is under fire after making controversial comments regarding an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. The incident occurred at a Trump rally in rural Pennsylvania, where a gunman, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, opened fire, striking Trump’s ear.

In the aftermath, Greene quickly took to social media to blame Democrats, asserting that the party had orchestrated the attack. “Democrats wanted this to happen,” Greene claimed, “They have wanted Trump gone for years and are prepared to do anything to make that happen.”

Greene’s comments quickly escalated as she labeled the current political climate a “battle” between “good and evil.” In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, “The Democrats are the party of pedophiles, murdering the innocent unborn, violence, and bloody, meaningless, endless wars. They want to lock up their political opponents and terrorize innocent Americans who would tell the truth about it. The Democrat party is flat out evil, and yesterday they tried to murder President Trump.”

These statements were met with a wave of criticism from both sides of the political spectrum. Omar Rivero, co-founder of Occupy Democrats, criticized Greene’s response, stating, “Donald Trump almost got shot dead by a Republican gun nut wielding an AR-15 — and this is how you respond? You’re truly beyond deplorable.”

Other social media users echoed similar sentiments, calling Greene’s rhetoric hypocritical and demanding her resignation. “Your rhetoric is REPREHENSIBLE. Sit down,” wrote X user Art Candee, while another user, Bryce Allers, declared, “You’re a disgrace to the United States Congress. This is so pathetic. Resign.”

Despite Greene’s claims, details about the gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, paint a more complex picture. Federal campaign records reveal that Crooks had previously donated $15 to a progressive political action committee in 2021 but later registered as a Republican, according to Pennsylvania voter data.

Max Smith, a former classmate of Crooks, described him as a staunch conservative, recalling how Crooks would consistently stand his ground on conservative issues during classroom debates. “He definitely was conservative. It makes me wonder why he would carry out an assassination attempt on the conservative candidate,” Smith told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The incident has further intensified the already polarized political atmosphere in the United States, highlighting the dangers of extreme rhetoric and the importance of measured discourse.
