Former KCAL News Anchor Files $5 Million Lawsuit for ‘Anti-White’ Discrimination

Jeff Vaughn, a former anchor for KCAL and KCBS, has filed a 5 million USD lawsuit alleging he was fired due to being an older, white, heterosexual male, claiming discrimination based on race, sex, age, and sexual orientation.

In a significant legal move, former KCAL and KCBS anchor Jeff Vaughn has filed a 5 million USD lawsuit, alleging that his termination was driven by discrimination against him as an older, white, heterosexual male. The lawsuit, which was filed by America First Legal, a conservative legal group, highlights alleged biases against Vaughn’s race, sex, age, and sexual orientation.

According to the court documents, Vaughn claims that his dismissal was rooted in the fact that he did not belong to the preferred demographic groups of the station’s management. “He was fired because he is an older, white, heterosexual, male,” the lawsuit states. Vaughn’s case points to specific incidents to support his claims, such as his exclusion from a 9/11 special, where his African American colleague and other minority group reporters were featured prominently. Vaughn emphasizes that none of the featured reporters had been present at ground zero during the 9/11 events, suggesting his exclusion was discriminatory.

Jeff Vaughn, who served at the CBS-owned station group for eight years until his departure in September 2023, contends that he was never provided with a clear reason for his firing. His legal representation, America First Legal, has a history of challenging diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, arguing they result in illegal “anti-white discrimination.”

This lawsuit brings to light ongoing debates about diversity and inclusion in the workplace, raising questions about the balance between promoting diversity and ensuring fair treatment for all employees, regardless of their demographic background.
